MindFull Gathering: Success!

Dear Dew Yogis,
We had an amazing MindFull Gathering connecting with one another, the Yoga communities of CT Power Yoga, Family Tree Yoga , Mantra Yoga and Aerial Arts, many beautiful vendors, music and with Nature. The day exceeded any expectations and intentions we had for such a gathering. So many of you who attended, thanked me personally for putting together this event. It is a practice for me to receive such beautiful sentiments and as I do that work, let me shine some light on those who had as big a hand in this as I did.
coutney.JPGCourtney Dumais approached me months ago about having a yoga class at a venue she runs, The Beer Garden. It was really Courtney who planted the seed. For many weeks the idea evolved and flourished into the MindFull Gathering.

Screen Shot 2017-07-24 at 10.18.36 AMJanelle Taylor, a beloved Dew Yoga teacher stepped into the most important organizational and promotional role along with Courtney, myself, and Sage Irwin. Together we nurtured that little seed until it blossomed into the event so many of us enjoyed.

FullSizeRender 6For me, it was an incredible manifestation of community, which can not happen without all of you. You all made it happen and we hope the MindFull Gathering will continue to evolve and flourish beyond this year. We have included some great photos from the day, below. If you have pictures from the day, please send them along to us so we can share those as well.
All Love and Light to All of you!
Jen Irwin

Free Class with Rita! Friday, April 28th

Join us for a FREE class, to try a new instructor that maybe you haven’t before!

9:30-10:45am Open Level Vinyasa with Rita Ende

We asked Rita, off the cuff, what she loves most about teaching yoga… she said, “Community. I love this part of teaching. Watching people connect, share, learn and support each other over the years has been a beautiful experience. While I’ve been studying and learning for over two decades, my greatest teachers are my students. Watching their beautiful bodies move and strive, observing whatever motivates them, and simply listening to what they offer each and every day, how they come, why they come, this is the greatest gift of being a yoga teacher!”

Even if this already is your regular class and already favorite teacher, your class is still on us.

About Namaste

Dear Dew,

Help me out, I notice that at the end of classes at Dew Yoga people make the prayer hands and say Namaste to everyone else in the class. Is it rude if I don’t do that?

Thanks,

Yogi

Dear Yogi,

The salutation Namaste, in simple terms means, the light in me honors the light in you. The hands held palm to palm at the heart is called Anjali Mudra, in simple terms; anjali – to offer or salute and mudra – seal as in to connect (not the animal.)

It can be a way of connecting to or offering gratitude or respect to the teacher within, the teacher in the room, your loved ones, your fellow students or to whatever you honor in the moment. This moment also punctuates the end of practice time.

It is absolutely fine, and certainly not rude to complete your practice in the way that feels most comfortable to you. As a teacher, I might suggest finding some other gesture or ritual that seals the practice for you, something that signifies the end of the time you dedicated to movement, mindfulness, meditation or to whatever it is that you come to practice.

At Dew, we often acknowledge each other for the time we spent in practice together since it is a shared journey in a group environment. However, I would hope that the collective always honors the uniqueness of each individual. So, be yourself and we are all honored in that!

Love, light, peace and some vegan-gluten-free, Paleo, nut free cookies too,

Dew Yoga
