Yoga
What is Yoga? There are as many answers to this question as there are students and teachers of Yoga.
“Yoga is a system of tools, practices and rituals that enhance our experience of living. “, is an answer often given by Jen Irwin, the founder of Dew Yoga.
It is at times much more and much less than that. The practice of Yoga is centuries old and has been interpreted and shared in various ways. There are various kinds of Yoga; Karma (service) , Bhakti (devotion), Jnana (knowledge) and Raja. According to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Raja Yoga is an eight limbed path of inquiry toward samadhi (enlightenment or bliss).
The eight limbs of Yoga are:
Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama,Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, Samadhi
The eight limbs describe exercises and practices of ethics, physical poses, breathing exercises and various forms of meditation.
Dew Yoga has Yoga classes that are suitable for everyone in every type of body and mind. Finding the class and teacher that is right for you is essential whether that means a Restorative Yoga class of breathing and meditation through relaxed physical poses or a Vigorous Vinyasa class of intense physical exercises, breathing and relaxation.
Classes are described on the Class Description page of the website and teachers can be “met” on the Teachers page. If you have further questions about classes, please do call or email us from the Contact Us page.
Namaste.
The light in me honors the light in you!
Meditation
Meditation is the practice training the mind to achieve states of mental clarity, relaxation or peace. Meditation can be called mindfulness or exercise for the mind. There are many ways to meditate. In simplest terms most forms of meditation boil down to paying attention.
Some meditation techniques may work better at certain times in ones life. Some techniques are better suited to some people while not so for others.
Like Yoga, it is important to find an appropriate practice and teacher. If at first you feel challenged by a technique, that is quite normal! If you find no comfort in a modality, try another!
We offer, guided mediations for relaxation, Yoga Nidra (conscious sleep), seated group meditation instruction and sharing, meditation with breathing exercises, Japa meditation (chanting and counting beads on a string).
We have periodic “specials” with our teachers offering one off or mini series of meditation instruction. We also invite guest teachers to present workshops and lectures on meditation. Sign up to receive our newsletter to stay informed of these events.
Keep on paying attention and discover the peace within.
