Meditation Overview
“Meditation is the only intentional, systematic human activity which at bottom is about not trying to improve yourself or get anywhere else, but simply to realize where you already are.”
― Jon Kabat-Zinn.
Our selection of meditation instruction and practice times offer a chance to explore different methods of mindfulness. Some meditation practices lead us to mindfulness through specific actions; chanting mantra, japa or counting. Other methods create mindfulness through a receptive or passive approach; guided imagery, yoga nidra or Zen.
Explore and discover what modality is your most appropriate transit to calming the fluctuations of the mind. We have a variety of regular monthly offerings by donation as well as class “specials”, workshops and events that arise on an ongoing basis.
Guided Journey Meditation for Relaxation
This meditation uses visualization to focus the mind and relax the body. Participants are invited to a comfortable seated or reclined posture and guided to a state of relaxation by Alison DeNicola. Themes for meditation vary monthly and are listed on our class schedule.
Alison DeNicola is a certified Divine Sleep Yoga Nidra teacher and a Five Elements Yoga Teacher through Kripalu. She is a Hypnotherapist, IET practitioner and has completed training in Restorative Yoga, Intuitive Coaching, Chakra Therapy and more.
Suggested donation $10 to benefit a charity of the teacher’s choice.
Meditation for Good Mental Health
Group meditation instruction and discussion of the mental health benefits led by Carlo Codato. Participants will have time to practice skills and share with others about the process.
Carlo is a licensed psychotherapist in private practice. Among other modalities, he teaches meditation to his clients to cope with anxiety, stress and depression.
Suggested donation $10 to benefit the teacher.
Yoga Nidra
Melt away the work week and recharge for the weekend with Jen Irwin. Yoga Nidra is practiced lying down comfortably. It is a deep guided relaxation that systematically encourages tension release from every part of the body leaving the practitioner feeling rested, relaxed and recharged. Bring a mat or blanket if you prefer to use your own.
Open to all, no fee. Donations are graciously accepted to support Domus Foundation. $10 suggested but not required. Participation in one’s wellness is already a contribution to our collective wellness.
Japa Meditation
Japa is a meditative practice of reciting mantra on your mala beads, focusing the mind on a mantra that is repeated once for each bead on a mala (string of 108 prayer beads). This form of meditation is particularly useful for those who have trouble keeping the mind from straying off during meditation practice as it uses a tactile focus (fingers on the beads) as well as a mental focus (thinking mind on the mantra). Bring your own mala, or purchase one at Dew. Contact Ann to learn more.
