Kripalu
Kripalu style classes offer instruction and or practice with breathing techniques (pranayama), postures (asana) that are held or flow together, as well as meditation. Kripalu yoga may include vinyasa, all movements are considered a meditation in motion and are linked to breath. Kripalu expects that the practice will adapt to the practitioner on any given day. These classes are leveled by intensity not by experience. Choose a level that aligns with your level of energy for the day. Kripalu is known as the yoga of compassion. It is also the name of the school from which the style emerged.
Vinyasa
Vinyasa means movement linked to breath. Vinyasa style has come to mean classes that predominantly focus on the physical aspect of yoga, asana. Movement is guided by rhythm of breath through a variety of poses. Poses are often punctuated by a standard downward dog, plank, upward dog sequence but can include any movements linked to the breath.
Kundalini
Kundalini Yoga is total fitness for body, mind and spirit. Through breathing, movement, stretching, meditation, relaxation and sound, Kundalini Yoga systematically raises and strengthens your vital energy. No prior experience is needed for you to begin to experience benefits almost immediately. Kundalini is a style of Yoga, it is also a term used to describe a form of vital life force in the body.
Yin Yoga
A slower-paced class that utilizes longer holds in individual poses. Yin is also known as Yoga for the joints. It utilizes props and gravity to nourish the large joints like hips and shoulders by releasing the connective tissue and muscles around them. Open to students of all experience.
Slow Flow Yoga
A yoga class that incorporates flowing movements linked to breath. Ideal for beginners or those with therapeutic concerns. This is a good choice if you want to move but are not in a hurry. Slow movement cultivates deeper awareness and is sometimes challenging (strong) and sometimes soothing.
Enlighten Up Yoga
An eclectic blend of meditative centering, gentle stretching, slow flow, and restorative poses. It’s the perfect mid-morning pause to help promote clarity, increase flexibility, and help individuals connect with their inner spirit. Especially effective for those recovering from, or dealing with an injury or looking for ways to release physical and/or emotional stress.
Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra is a guided relaxation also known as conscious sleep. It is a meditation practiced lying down comfortably. It systematically encourages tension release from every part of the body leaving the practitioner feeling rested, relaxed and recharged. Bring a mat or blanket if you prefer to use your own.
Class Levels
We do not level our classes based on experience of the student or difficulty of the postures. Our classes are distinguished by the level of intensity provided: Gentle, Moderate, Vigorous.
We believe Yoga is non-competitive and can be accessible to all. Choose a class that is aligned with the level of energy you bring to your mat. Advanced postures and techniques may be offered for students who are ready to practice them safely whether that be gently or vigorously.
Open Level classes are for everyone. It is the teacher’s responsibility to teach to “the room” offering a middle ground for the majority, instruction as needed and options for advanced variations as desired. It is the student’s benefit to understand that an Open Level class will be tailored to who shows up in the room.
